Columbia Memorial Stair Climb – “A Climb to Honor the Fallen”

The 2^nd Annual Columbia Memorial Stair Climb will take place on Saturday, May 5th, to honor the 422 first responders who died in the line of duty on 9-11-2001. The World Trade Center stood 110 stories high, and participants climb the equivalent of this during the event.

“Every registered climber is actually climbing for an individual that was killed on 9/11 and carries a lanyard with a photo and name of one of the fallen responders.” says, Tiffany Goran, event participant and spouse of Columbia Missouri Fire Fighter Tommy Goran.

Date: Saturday, May 5, 2018

Location: University of Missouri Memorial Football Stadium/Faurot Field

Time: Registration begins at 6:30 am / Opening Ceremony starts at 8:00 am

This event is part of the Association of Stair Climbs and will benefit two organizations in our community that support first responders and their families in times of need. The first organization is Safety Net of Missouri which provides benefits to families of fallen responders.

The second organization is the Firefighter Cancer Support Network that offers education and support to firefighters diagnosed with cancer. Studies have shown that two out of three firefighters will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

The event is open to the public and you can register here. Many first responders will climb in their gear and the community is invited to participate or cheer on those who will be climbing.

2018 Safe Kids Day, Columbia

With kids, there are so many things you need to be aware of and precautions you must take to keep them safe. On Saturday, April 28, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m, make plans to attend the 2018 Safe Kids Day to educate yourself on ways you can keep your child safe while having lots of fun.

This event has pulled together a variety of professionals from throughout the Columbia community that will educate you on resources available to you to keep your children safe. There will be a variety of interactive safety stations as well fire trucks and other big trucks to see, 100 bike helmets with fitting for FREE, local entertainment, prize drawings, princesses and superheroes and a FREE lunch from 10:30-12:30.

Nothing is more critical in protecting children from a variety of accidents than prevention and Safe Kids Day will inform you on easy ways you can protect your children at home and away.

Night of Champions Masquerade Ball, Columbia

Start your engines and be ready to take off at the Night of Champions Masquerade Ball on the evening of Saturday, April 21 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Masquerade Ball will benefit Rainbow House of Columbia. The event will include many fun activities including a wine pull, live and silent auctions, dinner, games, a DJ and lots of fun.

Four couples are also competing for King & Queen of the ball while raising money for Rainbow House and the winning couple will be crowned at the event. The Rainbow House mission is to keep children safe and support families in crisis through prevention, assessment and intervention in child abuse and neglect. They operate a children’s emergency shelter, regional child advocacy center and homeless youth program. This annual event is their largest fundraiser of the year.

The Collections Fashion Show, Columbia

The Stephens College Fashion Department will host its 74^th annual student designer fashion show, The Collections, on Saturday, April 14^th at Windsor Auditorium. Student designers work throughout the year to create garments for this fashion show. Students are then judged by a panel of professionals to determine whose designs will appear on the runway.

The entire show is student produced with students assisting with lighting, makeup, production, marketing and planning the event. Three shows will take place on Saturday, April 14^th at 2:00, 4:30 and 7:00 and a VIP event will take place prior to the 7:00 show.
