Decorating gingerbread houses is lots of fun but can be time consuming and messy. Leave the mess somewhere else when you decorate your gingerbread house at Harold’s Doughnuts for the holidays. Grab two friends and schedule your appointment at Harold’s for an afternoon or evening of fun.

For just $35, three people will have two hours to spend creating their gingerbread masterpiece from start to finish. Start by building your structure then decorate it just the way you like with a variety of toppings and treats.

This weekend’s decorating event will take place on Saturday, December 9th plus a variety of other times through December 23. To register for one, just go on the website and select your date.

Holiday Home Tour-Columbia, MO

The 34th Annual Women’s Symphony League Holiday Home Tour will take place this weekend. Five homes located in the Grasslands area of Columbia will be open for you to tour them while they are decorated for the holidays. This year’s homes include those of owners: Jane Mandel, Mary Phillips and Brian Treece, Julie and Scott Swain, Lili Vianello and John Shrum.

To visit the homes, you may park on the street near the home or take a shuttle from A.L. Gustin Golf Course. While you are touring the homes, make sure to stop by Provision Living at 2333 Chapel Hill Road for holiday décor and refreshments. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Missouri Symphony Society.

Fall Into Art Festival-Columbia, MO

Fall into Art takes place at the Parkade Center on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19. The event will include more than 50 artists featuring a wide variety of creation for purchase. If you are looking for unique Christmas gifts for your friends and family, these one of a kind pieces of art will make great gifts that will treasured for years to come. Expect many different kinds of art including pottery, glass, fabric, jewelry, photography and paintings to be available at the show.

50th Anniversary of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Columbia, MO

Rock Bridge Memorial State ParkRock Bridge State Memorial State Park has been around for 50 years providing an excellent place for people to enjoy themselves with hiking and bicycling in a beautiful environment that includes a large cave system with a rock bridge, sinkholes and an underground stream. On Saturday, November 4th, you can celebrate this wonderful park at their 50th anniversary celebration.

Come out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for music, food, a scavenger hunt, tours and history. During the event, you can meet the parks founders’ and their family and view two PowerPoint presentations highlight important people in the history of the park and the natural resources that can be found in the park. You will also be able to take park in tours of Connor’s Cove, hikes to Coyote Bluff and visits to the Hickam Log Cabin.

Music will also be performed by Pippa Letsky, Anna Duff, The Calvin Street Band and Banastre Tarleton. Big O Tires will provide free food including hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, chips and cold drinks. McDonald’s will provide hot beverages.

Keep your eyes open just in case Bigfoot decides to come to the party.

Citizen Jane Film Festival-Columbia, MO

Citizen Jane Film Festival The Citizen Jane Film Festival is in its 10th year and growing annually in both exposure and excitement. The festival promotes independent films by independent women. More than 30 films will be screened this year as part of the festival that takes place through Sunday, October 29th. Additional events will accompany the films including an opening night reception on Friday, a Late Night Dance Party on Saturday and brunch on Sunday.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office for individual events or the entire festival. Come out for one event or many but it may be hard to pick if you only plan to pick one. In an effort to bolster women in film, this festival, founded at Stephens College, promotes independent films by women and hosts a lecture series and a filmmaking camp for girls at other times of the year.

Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival-Hartsburg, MO

This weekend is time for the annual Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival when Hartsburg swells with visitors from all over to enjoy all the activities the festival has to offer. This year expect to enjoy local arts and crafts, music and food along with a variety of pumpkin activities.

The event features 150 craft vendors, a petting zoo, pony rides, 15 food booths and of course pumpkins. The event will last from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday at 10:00, don’t miss the 2nd annual Cutest Baby Contest with age groups up to 5 years old.

This festival will is a great way to get ready for fall and you might even be able to get your holiday shopping started (or finished) with all the great vendors that will be selling their homemade items.

Paws in the Park-Columbia, MO

Paws in the ParkMake plans for you and your furry friend to attend Second Chance’s 14th annual Paws in the Park on Saturday, October 7. This free event will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park.

The event will include a canine carnival with games and prizes for your dog and a silent auction. Local vendors will be setup as well and a variety of food trucks will offer food items. The Dock Dog Diving Competition will also be held in the lake as part of this year’s festival.

On Sunday morning, a 5K race/dog jog will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Second Chance and other local animal welfare organizations will also have adoptable animals at the event. Second Chance is a privately funded animal rescue that helps find homes for pets.

Shryocks Callaway Farms Corn Maze-Columbia, MO

Corn MazeFall is here and that means all kinds of outdoor fun is waiting for you at Shryock’s Callaway Farms Corn Maze. The corn maze just recently opened for the season so plan a visit soon to avoid some of the crowds that will come as the season progresses.

Grab your family and friends to spend an afternoon in the corn maze. You don’t have to end the fun there. The farm offers more fun at the big red barn, which offers drinks and snacks and a three-story gumball coaster. Watch your gumball travel through three stories of tracks and gadgets to reach the bottom.

Pumpkins will be available by the end of September and hayrides and campfires can be scheduled for groups to make a great outing. There is nothing like a day at the farm to get ready for fall. Hope you find your way out of the maze.
