Missouri Symphony Conservatory: Symphony for Toys

3086065325_7466991485_zMany of us would agree, too much of the Holiday season is spent rushing here and there, preparing homes and meals, shopping for gifts, and generally misusing the opportunity to enjoy the occasion. Perhaps some time should be devoted to slowing down and enjoying this once a-year-celebration of families and uplifting spiritual reflection, and what better way to celebrate than through music.

And that’s exactly what is offered by the Missouri Symphony Conservatory’s Symphony for Toys. It accomplishes a twofold mission – it provides an enjoyable Sunday afternoon of accomplished musicians performing varied musical numbers of the Holidays, and encourages guests to donate a toy for a child that might otherwise receive none. In exchange, the good deed is awarded with free admission to the concert for children and students. The toy donated should be unwrapped and is designated to the Toys for Tots organization.

This year’s concert features the Missouri Symphony Orchestra and Children’s Chorus with special artist Chloe Trevor, violinist, along with the Chamber Players, the Young Artist Philharmonic, the Junior Sinfonia, and Musical Director Kirk Trevor. In addition, there are special guests – the University of Missouri Concert Jazz Band, the Columbia Suzuki Ensemble, and Leah Crane, Soprano. Musical selections include songs from The Nutcracker, the music of Manheim Steamroller, and classics such as “Carole of the Bells” and “O Holy Night”.

That’s a lot of talented folks working to improve your holiday season, and rumor has it that a special someone from the North Pole will make an appearance as well!

Be kind to yourself this Holiday and save some time to actually celebrate and enjoy. It’s a great opportunity – don’t miss it!

When: December 20, 2015 – Sunday from 3 PM – 5 PM
Where: Missouri Theatre, Columbia, MO
