50th Anniversary of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Columbia, MO

Rock Bridge Memorial State ParkRock Bridge State Memorial State Park has been around for 50 years providing an excellent place for people to enjoy themselves with hiking and bicycling in a beautiful environment that includes a large cave system with a rock bridge, sinkholes and an underground stream. On Saturday, November 4th, you can celebrate this wonderful park at their 50th anniversary celebration.

Come out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for music, food, a scavenger hunt, tours and history. During the event, you can meet the parks founders’ and their family and view two PowerPoint presentations highlight important people in the history of the park and the natural resources that can be found in the park. You will also be able to take park in tours of Connor’s Cove, hikes to Coyote Bluff and visits to the Hickam Log Cabin.

Music will also be performed by Pippa Letsky, Anna Duff, The Calvin Street Band and Banastre Tarleton. Big O Tires will provide free food including hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, chips and cold drinks. McDonald’s will provide hot beverages.

Keep your eyes open just in case Bigfoot decides to come to the party.

Paws in the Park-Columbia, MO

Paws in the ParkMake plans for you and your furry friend to attend Second Chance’s 14th annual Paws in the Park on Saturday, October 7. This free event will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park.

The event will include a canine carnival with games and prizes for your dog and a silent auction. Local vendors will be setup as well and a variety of food trucks will offer food items. The Dock Dog Diving Competition will also be held in the lake as part of this year’s festival.

On Sunday morning, a 5K race/dog jog will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Second Chance and other local animal welfare organizations will also have adoptable animals at the event. Second Chance is a privately funded animal rescue that helps find homes for pets.

Summer Fest-Columbia, MO

Citizen Jane Film Festival

Columbia MO EventsVisitors can experience some fabulous films made by women in the Citizen Jane Film Festival. This four-day event runs from November 3rd thru the 6th and is held on the Stephens College campus.

Shows run all day with film school events held during the day and special films set for evening. Films are held in the Cat TV studio, Macklanburg Theatre and Logboat Brewery.

Guests can reserve tickets at the box office. However, tickets not picked up at least 15 minutes prior to the show will be released to those who are waiting in line. You can experience everything from documentaries to narratives to short films. There is also a panel discussion with filmmakers. You’ll see a mix of professionals and beginning filmmakers. Boone County Art Show

Boone County EventsThe Columbia Art League is presenting the 57th Boone County Art Show on October 15 and 16, 2016 to showcase works of art by local artists. Attendees have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces.

Because there is no entry fee, artists of all levels and in various mediums are encouraged to participate. Expect at least 200 works of art to be seen and for sale. Included in this show will be paintings, ceramics, wood, sculptures, fiber works and much more. Entrance to the show is free, but anyone who is interested may get a sneak peek on Friday at an evening dessert and wine fundraiser from 8 – 10 pm. For this event, ticket cost is $25. Family Fun at Peach Tree Farm

Columbia MO EventsDuring October, Peach Tree Farm opens up their orchard for guests of all ages to enjoy. There’s something for everyone with hayrides, a straw maze and animals to feed. Visit October 8 and 9, 2016 from 10 AM on Saturday until dark and 1 PM on Sunday until dark.

See the goats, sheep, ducks, turkeys, chickens, donkeys and bunnies as you tour the grounds. The kids will have a great time feeding and petting the animals as well. You can also see the area on a hayride which winds around the lake. Don’t forget to spend some time picking out the perfect pumpkin in the pumpkin patch.
