When the post-Thanksgiving weekend rolls around each year, it generally signals a new focus on Holiday shopping. Columbia has a gem to consider for gift giving – the Columbia Art League’s annual “Exhibition: Give a Gift of Art”. The Columbia Art League has been offering local artists a creative venue since 1959, and is the 2015 winner of the Missouri Arts Council Arts Organization Award. It also sponsors the longest-running Art Festival in Missouri each summer.
The Art League offers a wide variety of mediums in the arts – paintings, photos, sculptures, fibers, jewelry, ceramics, wood and many other mediums in hand-made and hand-constructed art works. This year’s focus is 120 pieces in 2D and 3D by local artists in all mediums, affording treasures to explore and consider for gift giving.
The Art League is highly involved in the community of Columbia and has supported artists and the arts for many years. In addition to exhibitions, it offers classes with excellent instructors to art enthusiasts of all ages. Its summer camp for young people is very popular and always fills up quickly, with cartooning classes a favorite of younger artists. Encouraging young artists to pursue creativity in the arts is undoubtedly one of its valuable assets to the community.
The Art League’s sales and exhibitions garner high praise from visitors local and otherwise, with its varied and high quality offerings. This year consider giving a unique and beautiful gift of art to those on your Holiday list while supporting local artists and the community. What better way to show the spirit of the Holiday season than with a gift that gives to so many, as well as supplying a serene, beautiful and thoughtful environment for Holiday shopping!
